When tackling something that you have never done b When tackling something that you have never done before it is easy to feel overwhelmed. There is a trick I have learned.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The first thing I do is think of examples of something similar that I HAVE DONE and feel confident in. Those thoughts TRIGGER THE TRANSFERENCE of CONFIDENCE. It can be a powerful boost, which helps you stop feeling overwhelmed, and calms the negative voices inside your head.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Then COMPARTMENTALISE the problem to a specific area. It changes the feeling of not having done something at all to: I have just not done a particular aspect of it before.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Using an intestinal foreign body surgery as an example, you may not have actually removed an intestinal foreign body before but you have performed a desexing on several large female dogs before. So you have prepped a patient for anaesthesia, entered an abdominal cavity, exteriorised small intestine while trying to locate the ovarian pedicle, and you have manipulated small intestine. After the spey you have then closed the abdominal cavity and recovered the patient. The key areas that are new are .... making a larger abdominal incision, performing the enterotomy and lavaging the abdomen. Now you can research those aspects, and find the information you need to skill up, by watching videos, reading blogs, or shadowing one being done at your practice.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You have two choices ..⁣⁣
1) Transferring confidence and compartmentalising 🤓 OR⁣⁣
2) Continue with the alternative which is thinking about a task in its entirety and feeling overwhelm. 😰⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I use this every time I do something different, from transitioning to a selfie video or talking on camera, from running a tutorial for staff at work, to running a workshop for 80 veterinarians. I also use this as an exercise for staff who feel overwhelm about an upcoming task or procedure are facing to help them navigate through it more effectively.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Give yourself the BOOST to get on with it, and get cracking! Let me know if you try it and how it goes? Share with someone who could do with a confidence boost. 👊

Celebrate your milestones, for each one is a testament to your commitment, your passion, and the difference you make in the lives you touch.
Isn't it annoyingly true that the guilt about what Isn't it annoyingly true that the guilt about what you haven’t done yet makes a much LOUDER NOISE in your head than the JOY and PRIDE at what you HAVE achieved. So turn down the volume dial on the negative and up on the good stuff and let's focus on what is possible, how far we have come, and what we achieved. Take a moment to celebrate you today! ❤️
    It's like snuggling a cloud 😍⁣ ⁣ Puppies are well It's like snuggling a cloud 😍⁣
⁣
Puppies are well known for eating things they shouldn’t- shoes, toys, pegs, plants! Basically whatever they can find around the place 🙈⁣ Here’s a few ways to puppy proof your home... ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1. Buy specifically designed puppy chew TOYS @kongcompany have a great range of puppy toys many of which also provide dental and educational benefits. ⁣⁣⁣
2. Put any INDOOR PLANTS out of reach and remove any toxic ones altogether such as calla lilies, aloe vera and ⁣ivy.⁣⁣
3. Puppy-proof the RUBBISH BIN with a secure lid- the garbage contains some of the most dangerous items puppies can swallow such as corn cobs, bbq skewers and meat tray inserts ⁣⁣⁣
4. SHOES and SOCKS are endlessly fascinating for some puppies and one of the most common objects we remove surgically after they are swallowed. Have a laundry basket with a lid for dirty clothes and put clean ones away in the drawers. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Never underestimate what a puppy can get into or onto if they are curious enough or smell something interesting. ⁣
⁣
Puppies are completely dependant on us for everything including their SAFETY which is a big responsibility but totally worth it for the cuteness and love they bring ❤️🐶⁣
